Heads UP - School Withdrawal
Thursday, August 17, 2023 by FHE

Heads UP: If you plan to start homeschooling (new to homeschooling) this fall and have not sent in your withdrawal letter to the public school, your withdrawal letter needs to be at the school before the first day. If that means you have to hand deliver instead of mailing it (the usual recommendation), then that is fine. But you need to do it ASAP.

**Please disregard if you have already sent in your letter or have already been homeschooling. You are no longer in the public school system. **

Take 2 copies of your letter to the school: one for them to keep and one for them to sign for your records. IF they refuse to sign, no worries. Note the date, time, who you are talking to, and "refusal to sign", then go home. Keep all relevant records/copies/communications for your records.

While you can withdraw at any time of the school year (for those on the fence), you CANNOT just not send your kids to school until you decide what you want to do. The schools WILL count all absences towards truancy.

If you need the kindergarten letter to unenroll a little one for the fall due to a preschool or you starting the enrollment process and have now decided to homeschool, PLEASE email Kim at [email protected] for the correct letter ASAP.

This law (article below) is specific to public school attendance and not a homeschool law; however, until you are out of the public school, you are still under their rules. See this article:  New Missouri Law for Public School and Non Attendance
