Contact Your State Legislators

Missouri State and Federal Legislator Lookup
Click the link above, then use the links from the page that comes from the Legislator Lookup to find your legislator’s contact information.

Telephone is the best form of contact during a Legislative Alert.
Phone calls are usually handled by legislative staff, so ask for the aide who is handling your issue.
Tell them your name. If you are a constituent, let them know. A constituent’s opinion carries the most weight.
Tell them you would like to leave a brief message such as:  "Hello, my name is John Doe and I am a constituent of (name of senator or representative). I am calling today to urge them to support/oppose HB or SB ________. Thank you."
Ask for your Senator’s/Representative’s position on the bill
You may also request a written response to your telephone call.

If you are unable to find your legislator’s phone number, State Information Operators are available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday at 573-751-2000. Operators are not available on State Holidays.

Writing a Letter
The letter is the most popular choice of communication with a legislator.
An effective letter will:
*State the purpose for writing in the first paragraph
*If it pertains to specific legislation, include bill number (HB ____ or SB ____)
*Be courteous and to the point
*Include key information, using examples to support your position.
*Address only one issue per letter, and keep letter size to one page if possible.
